Abstract

Background: In providing services to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic, nurses face risks if they do not apply health protocols. Purpose: This study aims to describe the adaptation of nurses in implementing hemodialysis during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This research was a case study. The research subjects were 5 hemodialysis nurses in Yogyakarta and Central Java Provinces. Data were collected through interviews and then analyzed using thematic content analysis. Results: There were 7 themes found: 1) Efforts to implement health protocols in hospitals and HD rooms; 2) Nurse's efforts in implementing new adaptations; 3) Interaction takes place with PPE without physical contact; 4) The interaction takes place using PPE; 5) The nurse's responsibility is a challenge; 6) External support becomes encouragement; 7) Expectations of hemodialysis nurses. Conclusion: Changing the adaptation of old habits into new habits has been implemented with the efforts of various parties. Keywords: hemodialysis; adaptation; nurse
