Abstract

Background: School children according to the World Health Organization (WHO) are children aged 7-15 years, while in Indonesia school children are 7-12 years old. Health problems that often occur in school-age children are personal hygiene. Sex education can increase knowledge of personal hygiene behavior. Visual media is effective as a medium for sex education. The anatomical doll is used as a visual aid to understand the anatomy of the human body. Objective: This research aimed to determine whether sex education using anatomical dolls can affect the personal hygiene behavior of students to be better. Method: This was Quasi Pre-Experimental with one group pretest-posttest approach. Sampling technique was total sampling with 32 students as the respondent. Analysis by non-parametric with Wilcoxon Test. Result: The results Wilcoxon Test analysis revealed before the intervention showed that there were 19 people with good personal hygiene behavior, while after the intervention, it increased to 22 people with good personal hygiene behavior with a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05). Conclusion: There is an effect of sex education using anatomical dolls on the personal hygiene behavior of students at Sentul Elementary School Godean Yogyakarta in 2022. Suggestion: Future researchers should find out other factors that can influence student’s behavior in maintaining and caring for the cleanliness of their reproductive organs.
