Abstract
The form of family support provided is different which can affect the self-care experience of participants with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) at home. Self-care experience shows the level of participant compliance in undergoing self-care for type 2 diabetes at home. The level of participant compliance in undergoing self-care is a form of family support provided. This study aims to determine the phenomenon of family support for self care of type 2 DM participants at home. This qualitative research used a phenomenological approach. The participants in this study were 6 people with type 2 diabetes who lived at home with their families, which were selected by purposive sampling technique. Data collection was done by interview. In this case, triangulation of data based on sources was carried out. The data were analyzed using the analytical guidelines from Creswell (2015). Family support in self-care at home was divided into seven themes, namely: the form of support provided in the form of information provided, intense feelings, material and work assistance, expressions of respect for participants, self-care activities, providing poor family support for self-care, and good behavior. or bad participants towards self care. Informational support provided in the form of suggestions, advice, and discussions. Emotional support provided in the form of attention, enthusiasm, and mental support. Instrumental support provided in the form of insurance, money, and labor assistance. Appreciation support in the form of a positive assessment of feelings.
